1 Therefore, since Christ R188 has suffered F66 in the flesh, arm R189 yourselves also with the same purpose, because he R190 who has suffered F66 in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 so R191 as to live the R192 rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will R193 of God. 3 For the R194 time already past is sufficient {for} {you} to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having F67 R195 pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable F68 idolatries.

4 In {all} this, they are surprised that you do not run with {them} into the same excesses of dissipation, R196 and they malign R197 {you;} 5 but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the R198 living and the dead. 6 For the R199 gospel has for this purpose been preached F69 even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to {the} {will of} God.

7 The R200 end of all things is F70 near; therefore, be R201 of sound judgment and sober {spirit} for the purpose of prayer. F71 8 Above all, keep R202 fervent in your love for one another, because love R203 covers a multitude of sins. 9 Be R204 hospitable to one another without complaint. R205 10 As R206 each one has received a {special} gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards R207 of the manifold grace of God. 11 Whoever R208 speaks, {is to do so} as F72 one who is speaking the utterances R209 of God; whoever serves {is to do} {so} as one who is serving by F73 R210 the strength which God supplies; so that in R211 all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to R212 whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

12 Beloved, R213 do not be surprised at the fiery R214 ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you share R215 the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation R216 of His glory you R217 may rejoice with exultation. 14 If you are reviled for F74 R218 the name of Christ, you R219 are blessed, because R220 the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 Make sure that none R221 of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome F75 R222 meddler; 16 but if {anyone suffers} as a Christian, R223 he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify R224 God in this name. 17 For {it is} time for judgment to R225 begin with F76 the R226 household of God; and if {it} {begins} R227 with us first, what {will be} the outcome for those who R228 do not obey the gospel R229 of God? 18 AND R230 IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT F77 WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS R231 MAN AND THE SINNER? 19 Therefore, those also who suffer according to the R232 will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.

1 Therefore, R233 I exhort the elders among you, as {your} fellow R234 elder and witness R235 of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker R236 also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the R237 flock of God among you, exercising oversight not R238 under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to {the will of} God; and not R239 for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording R240 it over those F78 allotted to your charge, but proving F79 to be examples R241 to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd R242 appears, you will receive the unfading R243 crown F80 R244 of glory.

5 You R245 younger men, likewise, be R246 subject to {your} elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility R247 toward one another, for GOD R248 IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. 6 Therefore humble R249 yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety R250 on Him, because He cares for you.

8 Be R251 of sober {spirit,} be R252 on the alert. Your adversary, the R253 devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, R254 seeking someone to devour. 9 But F81 R255 resist him, firm R256 in {your} faith, knowing that the R257 same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren F82 who are in the world.

10 After you have suffered for R258 a little while, the God R259 of all grace, who called R260 you to His eternal R261 glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, R262 confirm, R263 strengthen {and} establish you. 11 To R264 Him {be} dominion forever and ever. Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, R265 our faithful brother (for F83 so I regard {him),} I R266 have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the R267 true grace of God. Stand R268 firm in it! 13 She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and {so does} my son, Mark. R269 14 Greet R270 one another with a kiss of love. Peace R271 be to you all who are in Christ.
