1 Therefore, R233 I exhort the elders among you, as {your} fellow R234 elder and witness R235 of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker R236 also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the R237 flock of God among you, exercising oversight not R238 under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to {the will of} God; and not R239 for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording R240 it over those F78 allotted to your charge, but proving F79 to be examples R241 to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd R242 appears, you will receive the unfading R243 crown F80 R244 of glory.
5 You R245 younger men, likewise, be R246 subject to {your} elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility R247 toward one another, for GOD R248 IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. 6 Therefore humble R249 yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety R250 on Him, because He cares for you.
8 Be R251 of sober {spirit,} be R252 on the alert. Your adversary, the R253 devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, R254 seeking someone to devour. 9 But F81 R255 resist him, firm R256 in {your} faith, knowing that the R257 same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren F82 who are in the world.
10 After you have suffered for R258 a little while, the God R259 of all grace, who called R260 you to His eternal R261 glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, R262 confirm, R263 strengthen {and} establish you. 11 To R264 Him {be} dominion forever and ever. Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, R265 our faithful brother (for F83 so I regard {him),} I R266 have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the R267 true grace of God. Stand R268 firm in it! 13 She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and {so does} my son, Mark. R269 14 Greet R270 one another with a kiss of love. Peace R271 be to you all who are in Christ.
