1 Now about that time Herod F287 the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church in order to mistreat them. 2 And he had R611 James the brother of John put R612 to death with a sword. 3 When he saw that it pleased R613 the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. Now it F288 was during the R614 days of Unleavened Bread. 4 When he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him to four squads F289R615 of soldiers to guard him, intending after the R616 Passover to bring him out before the people.
5 So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for him was being made fervently by the church to God. 6 On the F290 very night when Herod was about to bring him forward, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound R617 with two chains, and guards in front of the door were watching over the prison. 7 And behold, an R618 angel of the Lord suddenly appeared R619 and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter's side and woke him up, saying, "Get up quickly." And his R620 chains fell off his hands. 8 And the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and put F291 on your sandals." And he did so. And he *said to him, "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me." 9 And he went out and continued to follow, and he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a R621 vision. 10 When they had passed the first and second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened R622 for them by itself; and they went out and went along one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. 11 When Peter came R623 to F292 himself, he said, "Now I know for sure that the R624 Lord has sent forth His angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that F293 the Jewish people were expecting." 12 And when he realized {this,} he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John R625 who was also called Mark, where many were gathered together and were R626 praying. 13 When he knocked at the door of the gate, a R627 servant-girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 When she recognized Peter's voice, because R628 of her joy she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter was standing in front of the gate. 15 They said to her, "You are out of your mind!" But she kept insisting that it was so. They kept saying, "It is his R629 angel." 16 But Peter continued knocking; and when they had opened {the door,} they saw him and were amazed. 17 But motioning R630 to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had led him out of the prison. And he said, "Report these things to James F294R631 and the R632 brethren." Then he left and went to another place. 18 Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers {as to} what F295 could have become of Peter. 19 When Herod had searched for him and had not found him, he examined the guards and ordered that they be R633 led away {to execution.} Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea R634 and was spending time there.
20 Now he was very angry with the people of Tyre R635 and Sidon; and with one accord they came to him, and having won over Blastus the king's chamberlain, they were asking for peace, because their R636 country was fed by the king's country. 21 On an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel, took his seat on the rostrum F296 and {began} delivering an address to them. 22 The people kept crying out, "The voice of a god and not of a man!" 23 And immediately an R637 angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died. F29724 But the R638 word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied. 25 And Barnabas R639 and Saul R640 returned from F298 Jerusalem when R641 they had fulfilled their mission, F299 taking along with {them} John, R642 who was also called Mark.

1 Now there were at Antioch, R643 in the church R644 that was {there,} prophets R645 and teachers: R646 Barnabas, R647 and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, R648 and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod R649 the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the R650 Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas R651 and Saul for the R652 work to which I have called them." 3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed R653 and laid R654 their hands on them, they R655 sent them away.
4 So, being sent R656 out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus. R6575 When they reached Salamis, they {began} to proclaim the word of God in the R658 synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John R659 as their helper. 6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician, R660 a Jewish false R661 prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus, 7 who was with the proconsul, R662 Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 8 But Elymas the magician R663 (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul R664 away from the R665 faith. 9 But Saul, who was also {known as} Paul, filled F300R666 with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him, 10 and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son R667 of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the R668 straight ways of the Lord? 11 "Now, behold, the R669 hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time." And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand. 12 Then the proconsul R670 believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the R671 teaching of the Lord. 13 Now Paul and his companions put out to sea from Paphos R672 and came to Perga R673 in Pamphylia; R674 but John R675 left them and returned to Jerusalem.
14 But going on from Perga, they arrived at Pisidian R676 Antioch, R677 and on the R678 Sabbath day they went into the R679 synagogue and sat down. 15 After the R680 reading of the Law and the R681 Prophets the R682 synagogue officials sent to them, saying, "Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it." 16 Paul stood up, and motioning R683 with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you R684 who fear God, listen: 17 "The God of this people Israel chose R685 our fathers and made F301R686 the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm He R687 led them out from it. 18 "For a R688 period of about forty years He R689 put up with them in the wilderness. 19 "When He had destroyed seven R690 nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed R691 their land as an inheritance--{all of which took} about R692 four hundred and fifty years. 20 "After these things He gave R693 {them} judges until Samuel R694 the prophet. 21 "Then they asked R695 for a king, and God gave them Saul R696 the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 "After He had removed R697 him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, 'I HAVE FOUND DAVID the son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY HEART, who will do all My will.' F30223 "From the descendants of this man, according R698 to promise, God has brought to Israel a R699 Savior, Jesus, 24 after John R700 had proclaimed before His F303 coming a baptism R701 of repentance to all the people of Israel. 25 "And while John was R702 completing his course, he R703 kept saying, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not {He.} But behold, one is coming after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.' 26 "Brethren, sons of Abraham's family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this R704 salvation has been sent. 27 "For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, R705 recognizing R706 neither Him nor the utterances F304 of the R707 prophets which are read R708 every Sabbath, fulfilled {these} by condemning {Him.} 28 "And though they found no ground for {putting Him to} death, they asked R709 Pilate that He be executed. F30529 "When they had carried R710 out all that was written concerning Him, they R711 took Him down from the R712 cross F306 and laid R713 Him in a tomb. 30 "But God raised R714 Him from the dead; 31 and for many days He R715 appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now His R716 witnesses to the people. 32 "And we preach R717 to you the good news of the R718 promise made to the fathers, 33 that God has fulfilled this {promise} to F307 our children in that He raised R719 up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, 'YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU.' 34 "{As for the fact} that He raised R720 Him up from the dead, no longer to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: 'I WILL GIVE YOU THE HOLY {and} SURE F308 {blessings} OF DAVID.' 35 "Therefore He also says in another {Psalm,} 'YOU WILL NOT ALLOW F309 YOUR HOLY F310 ONE TO UNDERGO F311 DECAY.' 36 "For David, R721 after he had served F312 the R722 purpose of God in his own generation, fell R723 asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent F313 decay; 37 but He whom God raised R724 did not undergo F314 decay. 38 "Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through R725 Him F315 forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and through F316 Him everyone R726 who believes is freed F317 from F318 all things, from which you could not be freed F317 through F318 the Law of Moses. 40 "Therefore take heed, so that the thing spoken of in R727 the Prophets may not come upon {you:} 41 'BEHOLD, YOU SCOFFERS, AND MARVEL, AND PERISH; F319 FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS, A WORK WHICH YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE, THOUGH SOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.' "
42 As Paul F320 and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that these things F321 might be spoken to them the next Sabbath. R72843 Now when {the meeting of} the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the God-fearing R729 proselytes F322R730 followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in the R731 grace of God. 44 The next Sabbath R732 nearly the whole city assembled to hear the word of the F323 Lord. 45 But when the R733 Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and {began} contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were blaspheming. F32446 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first; R734 since you repudiate it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we R735 are turning to the Gentiles. 47 "For so the Lord has commanded us, 'I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A LIGHT R736 FOR THE GENTILES, THAT YOU MAY BRING F325 SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.' " 48 When the Gentiles heard this, they {began} rejoicing and glorifying the R737 word of the F326 Lord; and as many as had R738 been appointed to eternal life believed. 49 And the R739 word of the Lord was being spread through the whole region. 50 But the R740 Jews incited the devout F327R741 women of R742 prominence and the leading men of the city, and instigated a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district. F32851 But they R743 shook off the dust of their feet {in protest} against them and went to Iconium. R74452 And the disciples were continually filled R745 with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
