You say, 'If any person uses the name of the temple F339 to make a promise, that means nothing. But if any person uses the gold that is in the temple to make a promise, then he must keep that promise.'

F336: Pharisees   The Pharisees were a Jewish religious group that claimed to follow carefully all Jewish laws and customs.

F339: temple   The special building in Jerusalem for Jewish worship.
F340: altar   An altar is a place where sacrifices or gifts are offered to God. There was an altar in front of the temple in Jerusalem.
F341: Pharisees   The Pharisees were a Jewish religious group that claimed to follow carefully all Jewish laws and customs.
F342: hypocrites   Bad people that act like they are good.
F343: mint, dill, cummin   Small plants grown in gardens and used for spices. Only very religious people would be careful enough to give a tenth of these plants.
F344: You are like that   Meaning, "You worry about the smallest mistakes but do the biggest sin."
F345: Pharisees   The Pharisees were a Jewish religious group that claimed to follow carefully all Jewish laws and customs.
F346: hypocrites   Bad people that act like they are good.
F347: Pharisees   The Pharisees were a Jewish religious group that claimed to follow carefully all Jewish laws and customs.
