Then he released Barabbas for F570 them; but after having Jesus scourged, R1554 he handed Him over to be crucified.

Then R1555 the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the R1556 Praetorium F571 and gathered the whole {Roman} cohort F572 R1557 around Him.

They stripped Him and put R1558 a scarlet robe on Him.

And R1559 after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed F573 in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

They R1560 spat on Him, and took the reed and {began} to beat Him on the head.

After R1561 they had mocked Him, they took the {scarlet} robe off Him and put His {own} garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.

As R1562 they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene R1563 named Simon, whom F574 they pressed into service to bear His cross.

they R1566 gave Him wine R1567 to drink mixed with gall; and after tasting {it,} He was unwilling to drink.

And when they had crucified Him, they R1568 divided up His garments among themselves by casting lots. F575

And sitting down, they {began} to keep R1569 watch over Him there.

And above His head they put up the charge against Him which F576 read, "THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS."

At that time two robbers *were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.

And those passing by were hurling F577 abuse at Him, wagging R1570 their heads

and saying, "You who {are going to} destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If R1571 You are the Son of God, come down from the cross."

In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking {Him} and saying,
 
27:42 - [In Context|Original Greek]
"He saved others; He F578 cannot save Himself. He R1572 is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
 
27:43 - [In Context|Original Greek]
"HE TRUSTS IN GOD; LET GOD RESCUE {Him} now, IF HE DELIGHTS F579 IN HIM; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.' "

The R1573 robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.
 
27:45 - [In Context|Original Greek]
Now R1574 from the sixth F580 hour darkness fell F581 upon all the land until the ninth F582 hour.

About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "ELI, R1575 ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY R1576 GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, {began} saying, "This man is calling for Elijah."
 
27:48 - [In Context|Original Greek]
Immediately R1577 one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink.

But the rest {of them} said, "Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him."

And Jesus cried R1578 out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.

And R1579 behold, the R1580 veil F583 of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the R1581 earth shook and the rocks were split.
