Book of Matthew Chapter 9 - Read Chapter 9:27 - [In Context ]When Jesus was leaving there, two blind men followed him. The blind men said loudly, "Show kindness to us, Son of David. F114 "
9:28 - [In Context ]Jesus went inside, and the blind men went with him. Jesus asked the men, "Do you believe that I am able to make you see again?" The blind men answered, "Yes, Lord, we believe."
9:29 - [In Context ]Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, "You believe that I can make you see again, so this will happen."
9:30 - [In Context ]Then the men were able to see again. Jesus warned them very strongly. Jesus said, "Don't tell any person about this."
9:31 - [In Context ]But the blind men left and spread the news about Jesus all around that area.
9:32 - [In Context ]When the two men were leaving, some people brought another man to Jesus. This man could not talk because he had a demon F115 inside him.
9:33 - [In Context ]Jesus forced the demon to leave the man. Then the man that couldn't talk was able to speak. The people were amazed and said, "We have never seen anything like this in Israel."
9:34 - [In Context ]But the Pharisees F116 said, "The leader of demons F117 (the devil) is the one that gives him (Jesus) power to force demons out."
9:35 - [In Context ]Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages. Jesus taught in their synagogues F118 and told people the Good News about the kingdom. And Jesus healed all kinds of diseases and sicknesses.
9:36 - [In Context ]Jesus saw the many people and felt sorry for them. Jesus felt sorry for the people because the people were worried and helpless. The people were like sheep without a shepherd to lead them.
9:37 - [In Context ]Jesus said to his followers, "There are many, many people to harvest (save). But there are only a few workers to help harvest them.
9:38 - [In Context ]God owns the harvest (people). Pray to him that he will send more workers to help gather his harvest."
Chapter 10 - Read Chapter 10:1 - [In Context ]Jesus called his twelve followers together. Jesus gave them power over evil spirits. Jesus gave them power to heal every kind of disease and sickness.
10:2 - [In Context ]These are the names of the twelve apostles F119 : Simon (also called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
10:3 - [In Context ]Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew, the tax collector; F120 James, son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
10:4 - [In Context ]Simon the Zealot F121 and Judas Iscariot. Judas is the one that gave Jesus to his enemies.
FOOTNOTES: F114: Son of David Name for the Christ (Messiah). He was from the family of David, king of Israel about 1000 years B.C.
F115: demon(s) Demons are evil spirits from the devil.
F116: Pharisees The Pharisees were a Jewish religious group that claimed to follow carefully all Jewish laws and customs.
F117: demon(s) Demons are evil spirits from the devil.
F118: synagogue(s) Synagogues were places where Jews gathered for prayer, study of the Scriptures, and other public meetings.
F119: apostles The men Jesus chose to be his special helpers.
F120: tax collector(s) Jews hired by the Romans to collect taxes. They often cheated, and the other Jews hated them.
F121: Zealot The Zealots were a Jewish political group.
