Chapter 4
4:1 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell (8748) in all the earth; Peace be multiplied (8748) unto you.

4:2 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
I thought it good (8754) to shew (8682) the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought (8754) toward me.

4:3 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

4:4 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
I Nebuchadnezzar was (8754) at rest (8752) in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:

4:5 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
I saw (8754) a dream which made me afraid (8741), and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled (8792) me.

4:6 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Therefore made (8752) I a decree to bring (8682) in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known (8681) unto me the interpretation of the dream.

4:7 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Then came (8750) in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers (8750): and I told (8750) the dream before them; but they did not make known (8683) unto me the interpretation thereof.

4:8 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told (8754) the dream, saying,

4:9 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know (8754) that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no * * secret troubleth (8750) thee, tell (8747) me the visions of my dream that I have seen (8754), and the interpretation thereof.

4:10 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw * (8754) (8751), and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

4:11 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
The tree grew (8754), and was strong (8754), and the height thereof reached (8748) unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

4:12 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow (8681) under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt (8748) in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed (8729) of it.

4:13 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
I saw * (8754) (8751) in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down (8750) from heaven;

4:14 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
He cried (8751) aloud, and said (8750) thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off (8745) his branches, shake off (8680) his leaves, and scatter (8745) his fruit: let the beasts get away (8748) from under it, and the fowls from his branches:

4:15 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Nevertheless leave (8747) the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet (8721) with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

4:16 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Let his heart be changed (8741) from man's, and let a beast's heart be given (8725) unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

4:17 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know (8748) that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth (8748) it to whomsoever he will (8748), and setteth up (8681) over it the basest of men.

4:18 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen (8754). Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare (8747) the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able (8750) to make known (8682) unto me the interpretation: but thou art able (8751); for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

4:19 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied (8733) for one hour, and his thoughts troubled (8792) him. The king spake (8750), and said (8750), Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble (8792) thee. Belteshazzar answered (8750) and said (8750), My lord, the dream be to them that hate (8750) thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

4:20 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
The tree that thou sawest (8754), which grew (8754), and was strong (8754), whose height reached (8748) unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

4:21 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt (8748), and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation (8748):

4:22 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
It is thou, O king, that art grown (8754) and become strong (8748): for thy greatness is grown (8754), and reacheth (8754) unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

4:23 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
And whereas the king saw (8754) a watcher and an holy one coming down (8750) from heaven, and saying (8750), Hew the tree down, and destroy (8740) it; yet leave (8747) the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet (8721) with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;

4:24 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come (8754) upon my lord the king:

4:25 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
That they shall drive (8751) thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be (8748) with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat (8748) grass as oxen, and they shall wet (8743) thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know (8748) that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth (8748) it to whomsoever he will (8748).

4:26 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
And whereas they commanded (8754) to leave (8749) the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known (8748) that the heavens do rule.

4:27 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable (8748) unto thee, and break off (8747) thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy (8749) to the poor (8750); if it may be (8748) a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

4:28 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
All this came (8754) upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

4:29 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
At the end of twelve * * months he walked * (8754) (8750) in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

4:30 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
The king spake (8750), and said (8750), Is not this * * great Babylon, that I have built (8754) for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

4:31 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell (8754) a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken (8750); The kingdom is departed (8754) from thee.

4:32 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
And they shall drive (8751) thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat (8748) grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know (8748) that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth (8748) it to whomsoever he will (8748).

4:33 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
The same hour was the thing fulfilled (8754) upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven (8752) from men, and did eat (8748) grass as oxen, and his body was wet (8721) with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown (8754) like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

4:34 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up (8754) mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned (8748) unto me, and I blessed (8745) the most High, and I praised (8745) and honoured (8745) him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

4:35 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
And all the inhabitants (8748) of the earth are reputed (8752) as nothing: and he doeth (8751) according to his will (8749) in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants (8748) of the earth: and none can stay (8741) his hand, or say (8748) unto him, What doest (8754) thou?

4:36 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
At the same time my reason returned (8748) unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned (8748) unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought (8748) unto me; and I was established (8717) in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added (8717) unto me.

4:37 - [In Context|Original Hebrew]
Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise (8743) and extol (8751) and honour (8743) the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk (8683) in pride he is able (8750) to abase (8682).
